CayenneHello, world! My name is Cayenne and I’m a 17 year old health and beauty enthusiast. I’ve been experimenting with different makeup and hair looks for years and I’m going to share everything I’ve learned with you lovelies.

A little bit about me:

I love art, culture, fitness, DIYing, being in nature, hanging out with small kids and old people, travelling, writing, drawing and more.

I live in a small suburban town not far from Vancouver, BC., though I spend practically all of my free time in the city.

I love trying new things! From fashion and makeup to food and experiences, I’m always looking for an adventure and experiencing something different.

Some of the topics I’m going to cover in my blog posts are:

1)    How to find a look that is unique for you and accentuates your best features.

2)    How to make the best of a low budget without sacrificing quality, and recommended drugstore products I swear by. (Though I hear products from companies like Mac and Sephora are fab, my wallet disagrees.)

3)    Basic makeup rules everyone should know (and when it’s ok to break them).

4)    Tons of fun DIY beauty projects, including how to make your own moisturizer, lip balm, exfoliating scrub, blush and more.

5)    How to change your look as the seasons change without having to buy all new products.

6)    How to dye and bleach your own hair without it all falling out or looking like a very fashion-missing scarecrow.

7)    How to grow out a pixie haircut while staying totally fab and steering well clear of Justin Bieber territory.

… And so much more!

be-yourselfI’m so excited that I am able to share with you everything I know. I believe that everyone deserves to feel their most beautiful, and although true beauty comes from the inside out, if wearing a little makeup makes you feel more confident then go for it!

For the longest time, I was very self-conscious about looking different from everyone else, and would therefore try my hardest to blend in and look like everyone else. I realized, however, that normal was Boring with a capital B, and once I learned to love my unique features it seemed like everyone else did too! Now I get comments all the time about how unique and interesting my look is.

Anyway, the point is there are too many mundane things in the world, and there’s no need for you to be another one of them just because you’re afraid of what the world will think if you try something different. So in my posts I’m going to focus on how to stand out, and love yourself, and flaunt the gorgeous majestic one of a kind beauty that is YOU!

Belinda_kisses_tnBelinda Hamilton talks acne and skin care

water_glass_I have spent the last 20 years trying to get rid of the stupid acne on my stupid face. Though I am limited in what I can use to treat and maintain the issue due to allergies, I’ve been having marginal success lately.

Here are the only things I am conscious of actually changing.

~Note this is what has worked for me, it may not work for everyone.~

#1 I threw away all the cleansers and toners I had.

This was due to my allergy to salicylic acid. Since this acid is pretty much in every single product used to treat acne and it gives me a migraine every time without fail… Out it all went.

#2 I stopped drinking carbonated drinks.

Seriously, the moment I have a can or glass of soft drink, I can expect a break out within days. I switched it with water. (especially when having take away meals)

#3 I eat more fruit and veg.

I’ve been adding peas and corn to dishes I don’t normally have any veg in and have been adding more variety to the dishes that usually have standard veggies.

#4 I wash/ replace my make up applicators more regularly.

You would think this one is a no brainer, but seriously when was the last time you did this?  ~ Here’s a clip from Michelle Phan on brush cleaning (give away isn’t current)

#5 I TRY to stress less.

I know when I haven’t been managing my time properly… I stress.

#6 I switch out my pillowcase more often.

You spend at least 8 hours a night connected to the thing with your face. You do the maths.

#7 I look in the mirror less.

You tend to scrutinise your blemishes if you spend too much time glancing in the mirror, which makes number 8 harder to succeed at.

fruit-and-vegetables8 I try not to pop the zits, or touch my face in general.

Easier said than done on both counts. Be mindful and have some self control.

#9 I keep my hair out of my face.

I generally like to do this for work anyway, however it reduces the oils and products touching my face.

#10 I wash off my make up EVERY day.

For this I just use a clean wash cloth and warm water.

If you’ve got some non medical tips on how to treat acne, feel free to let me know.

Belinda_kisses_tnBelinda talks watches.

watches-coolWatch It!

I have this awful tan line happening on my left arm right now thanks to my watch. This wouldn’t be happening if I changed up the type of watches I used during the week (or used more sunscreen). I figured I’d take a look at a few different styles of watch to see what you all thought would be kinda cool to use.

When I was in high school, the must-have watch was a Baby G by Casio.  They never really did anything for me back then, nor do they now because my arms are so thin. What can I say? It’s a curse.

The other most famous type of watch going around when I was a kid was a Swatch watch  and believe me they’ve come a LOOONG way from slapping a branded piece of plastic to your arm. There are actually some on there I would love to wear. However the online store isn’t available to Australia. Booo!

For the classical look you can go with a fob watch, or a pocket watch. These would make a nice day to day look. For a dramatic addition to a steam punk outfit you can try and find one that has all the moving parts visible. Check them out on E Bay. *sigh* So pretty.

To get really picky you can always just do away with the watch all together and rely on the clock on your mobile phone. But since my battery is always flat, I’d do better with a sun dial on a cloudy day.

Anyway, I hope I’ve triggered a fashion trend change. If none of these worked for you I’d love to hear which watches are making you tick.

sprouts and star-fruit-slicesNo, no. I don’t mean Brussels Sprouts. I mean the squiggly little white and green things you find in a good salad sammich. Or as pretty decorations on the side of your plate in a fancy restaurant. Alfalfa, broccoli, adzuki beans, lentils, fenugreek, radish, kale, snow peas – and let’s not forget that old favourite – mung beans. They’re seriously awesome for anyone who’s trying to be kind to their body.

One of the biggest benefits of eating raw sprouts is your immune system loves them. Take alfalfa for example. It’s pumped full of enzymes and protein, fibre, niacin, thiamine, riboflavin, folate, pantothenic aid, vitamins B6 and K – all the good stuff, especially if you’re prone to coming down with constant colds and flu.

But the best part of being a sprout eater is they’re the real fast food. No cooking required (in fact, it’s best if you don’t cook them). I like them best piled on crackers with a little hommus. Delish. My favourites are the more peppery flavours like radish, red kale and broccoli, but the others in my household just enjoy them as salad with a little lemon juice.

If you’ve never been a sprout-eater, go and experiment with flavours, don’t be scared. They’re also way too easy to grow at home. In the kitchen. Yourself. Without dirt. You probably had a go in science class as a 6 year old. As long as you remember to add water, it doesn’t matter if you have a brown thumb. And by eating them straight from your own kitchen bench, you’re actually eating LIVE food.

Yes, LIVE!

This way, you get the most of their sprouty benefits.

Here’s how I grow them:

I purchased a specialised sprout-sprouter from our local hardware shop (Bunnings), the brand was Mr. Fothergill’s. It was about $19, but you don’t necessarily need one of these. Just a recycled plastic container with drainage holes cut into the bottom will do (just make sure the holes are really little so you don’t wash away the smallest seeds). Basically, you don’t want your sprouts sitting in water all day, you just need to rinse them. Seed and salad packs can also be purchased at your local hardware or health food shop for about $4 each – CHEAP!

Pop about a teaspoon full of your chosen seed into the tray and give it about a cup of water. Make sure your container is draining well. Repeat 2 or 3 times a day. The seeds don’t even need to be in direct sunlight. Apart from watering, you need to… well, nothing actually. Just watch. In 3 or 4 days, you’ll have a tray full of healthy snacks that your body will love you for.
