Welcome to another Life with Lisa!!!

Even though I haven’t been busy, life itself has been pretty crazy! I would say I can’t believe I’m already a senior in high school, but I’m not, because I can believe it! Don’t get me wrong, I love going to school, I love high school, I enjoy learning, meeting new people, going to sports and other school events. But on the other hand, I want to get out in the world, and do something productive. I’m tired of sitting in classrooms for eight hours, five days out of seven, and waiting around for someone to teach me something I don’t already know.

So for the question, “Am I excited to become a senior?” Yes and no.

Yes because…

..I decided to do an entire wardrobe change. I felt that since I’m turning 18 soon, I should be dressing more mature. Instead of just throwing on something in the morning when I’m half asleep and not even sure if whatever I’m wearing matches, I should pack my school bag, and layout the clothes I plan on wearing the night before.

..I purchased my own agenda, to keep myself organized. My school actually hands them out for free on the first day of school, but usually their too small, and I just tend give up in squeezing my homework for eight classes in a two by four inch square.

..Instead of taking a lot of Advance Placement classes, I’m only taking one, and taking more educational but fun classes, such as Astronomy, Marine Biology, Creative Writing and Writing for College!

..New classes means meeting new people, and I love doing that!

..I enjoy going to school events, and cheering on my friends.

No because…

… I’m retaking both the SAT and ACT, just to see if I could get higher scores, which means study study study!

… I need to finally decide on what I want to do later in life, and I don’t really know yet! (I was thinking elementary school math teacher?)

… Projects!!

Even though I’m not as excited as many of my fellow classmates, I can’t wait to see what good times, and challenges senior year will bring me!

Before I begin, I just want to say, go ahead, laugh! Laugh as much as you, as loud as you want, and as hard as you want. Because even though I didn’t want to admit to it back when I broke my arm, it’s true, its kind of a funny story.

About six years ago, when I was around eleven or twelve years of age (is that how old you are in the sixth grade? Who knows!), my dad promised to take me out; not exactly sure for what, but I remember being excited and couldn’t wait to go!

So I did the usual things, showered, brushed my teeth, did my hair, and got dressed. I know I don’t remember what we were going out to do, I do remember it must have been pretty important and meant a lot to me, because I recall wearing my ultimate favorite pair of jeans (which were only for very special occasions, and which I hate more than anything now!).

My was dad rushing and constantly asking me if I was ready yet, and telling me to come downstairs so we could finally get going – he had me stressed! When I got to deciding on what I wanted to wear and putting it on, I just grabbed and random shirt, my favorite jeans, and quickly threw them on…maybe too quickly!

I can remember this next part, crystal clear as if it happened ten minutes ago! I grabbed the jeans, while walking to my door, slipped in one leg, and was in the process of doing the same to the other leg, until I lost my balance, causing me to fail. Human instincts told me to lean or grab onto something but, with both legs trapped inside of my pants, my right wrist hit the door frame, followed by my bum hitting the floor.

At that moment, nothing hurt, not my butt nor my wrist, so I just went on about my business and practically ran down the entire set of stairs.

The next thing I remember, is our ride home. Whenever I tried to turn my wrist, even the tiniest bit, a sharp pain would shoot from my wrist all the way up to my elbow. I told my dad, that my arm was hurting. With not much medical expertise my dad explained to me that I would be fine. But he did make a detour to the pharmacy to pick me up some bandage wrap and Icy/Hot to relieve the pain. Basically what any military man would do, when something “wasn’t broken”.

Finally getting home, my dad explained to my mom what took us so long, and why I had a wrap around my wrist. She didn’t believe it was broken either, she thought I was only doing it to get attention. Thanks mom!

A week or so later, my wrist was swollen to about twice the normal size, and I couldn’t move it at all. Knowing it was broken, I begged my dad to take me to the emergency room, and he did – all the while my mom was still claiming I was doing this for attention.

Sitting in the emergency room, my suspicions were proven correct. While getting my cast put on, I could do nothing but glare at my dad, for not believing me and not taking me to the hospital earlier. After leaving the ER, my dad took me out for ice cream, just as a sorry for not get my arm checked out by a doctor earlier. At that age, ice cream made everything better.

Even til this day, over six years later, my mom still accuses me of doing it on purpose. I don’t blame her, because all kids break their own bones for attention right? School wasn’t too bad, I didn’t have anyone who carried my books from class to class, and things didn’t really change. But of course I didn’t tell my friends that I broke my arm putting my pants on. I told them all kinds of cool stories like I was rock climbing and fell down a cliff, I was doing back flips on the trampoline and landed the wrong way. Breaking your arm putting your pants on, wasn’t exactly a cool story!

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading another one of my Life with Lisa’s!!! 😀

Welcome to Life with Lisa!

There’s in nothing better than sitting down, in the perfect place, cracking open a good book, and reading for a few hours. It’s relaxing, it gets your mind off of real life, and it takes you on a journey you would otherwise never be able to go on.

But for me, I can’t jump back into the book until I find that perfect place to read! It can’t be too loud or noisy, or else I won’t be able to concentrate on the story, but it also can’t be too quiet or else my thoughts will just wander, and I’ll start thinking about other things, such as stresses in life, chores, jobs, parents, and friends (don’t get me wrong, I love my family and friends, sometimes they can be a handful though!).

In the winter, I can’t be too cold, and in the summer I can’t be too hot! My reading locations change due to seasonal changes.

Throughout the winter, I like reading at night, when everything is dark and cozy. I’ll turn on my bedside lamp, light a candle, make myself a nice andwarm coffee, and cuddled up in my bed. I could lay there for hours reading, before I know it, it’s already past midnight, and I know waking up the next morning for school will be a struggle.

During the summer, I enjoy reading throughout the day, never really the night, but especially the morning. I’ll grab a lawn chair, my two evil doggies, and go out to the back yard, and just read until lunch time. If I’m out on vacation (which we don’t go very far, maybe a few nights at the beach, everydaywaking up and going to a different little town at the

shore!), I’ll usually go to the beach in the morning before anyone wakes up, and read for a while, just listening to the seagulls, the water rushing up on shore, and watching out for crabs or the occasional starfish.

These are my perfect places to read, they might not be the same as yours, so I would love to hear where yours are, let me know! 🙂

Welcome to Life With Lisa!

School is finally out! I know … what school goes until the end of June? But who cares, it’s over, I’m free, and now I can do whatever I want, pretty much whenever I want!

With all of this free time on my hands, I decided to do a lot of catching up (I hope to read every single book in my shelf by the end of the summer)! Which means, reading and reviewing series that I’ve been meaning to read for a while now, but just haven’t gotten around to them. I find myself having a hard time reading series, just because they do have more than just one book, not saying series are bad, but I just find myself picking up stand-alones, or trilogies.

Do you guys find yourself doing that too? Or is that just me?

The Pretty Little Liars, by Sara Shepard!

*I have read the books 1-7 a year or two ago, but I never wrote reviews. So I hope to re-read, finish and review the entire series, before the summer is over!*

The House of Night Series, by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast.

*I have read up to book four, but also never wrote reviews! I hope to re-read this series, finish and write reviews on them! The series is a little confusing but I hope to be able to finish them and write a review for each book!*

And the novellas…

The Vampire Academy, by Richelle Mead.

*I just started purchasing and reading this series! I have read and reviewed book one, which I loved, so I hope to also finish this series!*

And the final series I want to finish this summer, is the Mortal Instruments series, by Cassandra Clare!

*In this series, I already read and reviewed books one and two, so I hope to continue and finish books three, four, and so on!*

I have tons of reading to do this summer, and I can’t wait to finally get things squared away and be able to dive into these awesome books! Do you have reading goals this summer? Comment down below, and let me know what they are!!

Welcome to Life with Lisa!!

Summer is coming up fast (thank goodness! school has been stressing me out!), and right now is the time to pick up the perfect light read books for either the beach, road trips, or even just for tanning out in the backyard! Don’t know what kind of summer novels to pick up? No worries, Lisa’s got your back 🙂  (These books are novels I’ve already read, or really want to!)

Any of the three Summer series books, by Jenny Han!

The Summer I Turned Pretty

“Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer–they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one terrible and wonderful summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.”

It’s Not Summer Without You

“Can summer be truly summer without Cousins Beach? It used to be that Belly counted the days until summer, until she was back at Cousins Beach with Conrad and Jeremiah. But not this year. Not after Susannah got sick again and Conrad stopped caring. Everything that was right and good has fallen apart, leaving Belly wishing summer would never come. But when Jeremiah calls saying Conrad has disappeared, Belly knows what she must do to make things right again. And it can only happen back at the beach house, the three of them together, the way things used to be. If this summer really and truly is the last summer, it should end the way it started–at Cousins Beach.”

We’ll Always Have Summer

“It’s been two years since Conrad told Belly to go with Jeremiah. She and Jeremiah have been inseparable ever since, even attending the same college– only, their relationship hasn’t exactly been the happily ever after Belly had hoped it would be. And when Jeremiah makes the worst mistake a boy can make, Belly is forced to question what she thought was true love. Does she really have a future with Jeremiah? Has she ever gotten over Conrad? It’s time for Belly to decide, once and for all, who has her heart forever”

Pretty much any Sarah Dessen book rocks as a summer read!

Along for the Ride

“It’s been so long since Auden slept at night. Ever since her parents’ divorce—or since the fighting started. Now she has the chance to spend a carefree summer with her dad and his new family in the charming beach town where they live.
A job in a clothes boutique introduces Auden to the world of girls: their talk, their friendship, their crushes. She missed out on all that, too busy being the perfect daughter to her demanding mother. Then she meets Eli, an intriguing loner and a fellow insomniac who becomes her guide to the nocturnal world of the town. Together they embark on parallel quests: for Auden, to experience the carefree teenage life she’s been denied; for Eli, to come to terms with the guilt he feels for the death of a friend.

In her signature pitch-perfect style, Sarah Dessen explores the hearts of two lonely people learning to connect.”

The Truth About Forever

a long, hot summer…
That’s what Macy has to look forward to while her boyfriend, Jason, is away at Brain Camp. Days will be spent at a boring job in the library, evenings will be filled with vocabulary drills for the SATs, and spare time will be passed with her mother, the two of them sharing a silent grief at the traumatic loss of Macy’s father.

But sometimes unexpected things can happen—things such as the catering job at Wish, with its fun-loving, chaotic crew. Or her sister’s project of renovating the neglected beach house, awakening long-buried memories. Things such as meeting Wes, a boy with a past, a taste for Truth-telling, and an amazing artistic talent, the kind of boy who could turn any girl’s world upside down. As Macy ventures out of her shell, she begins to wonder, Is it really better to be safe than sorry?”

Besides Sarah Dessen, Nicholas Sparks books are also a great choice!

The Last Song

“Seventeen year-old Veronica “Ronnie” Miller’s life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Wilmington, North Carolina. Three years later, she remains angry and alienated from her parents, especially her father… until her mother decides it would be in everyone’s best interest if she spent the summer in Wilmington with him. Ronnie’s father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church. The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story about love in its myriad forms – first love, the love between parents and children – that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that deeply felt relationships can break our hearts… and heal them.”

The Notebook

“A man with a faded, well-worn notebook open in his lap. A woman experiencing a morning ritual she doesn’t understand. Until he begins to read to her. The Notebook is an achingly tender story about the enduring power of love, a story of miracles that will stay with you forever. Set amid the austere beauty of coastal North Carolina in 1946, The Notebook begins with the story of Noah Calhoun, a rural Southerner returned home from World War II. Noah, thirty-one, is restoring a plantation home to its former glory, and he is haunted by images of the beautiful girl he met fourteen years earlier, a girl he loved like no other. Unable to find her, yet unwilling to forget the summer they spent together, Noah is content to live with only memories. . until she unexpectedly returns to his town to see him once again.

Allie Nelson, twenty-nine, is now engaged to another man, but realizes that the original passion she felt for Noah has not dimmed with the passage of time. Still, the obstacles that once ended their previous relationship remain, and the gulf between their worlds is too vast to ignore. With her impending marriage only weeks away, Allie is forced to confront her hopes and dreams for the future, a future that only she can shape. Like a puzzle within a puzzle, the story of Noah and Allie is just beginning. As it unfolds, their tale miraculously becomes something different, with much higher stakes. The result is a deeply moving portrait of love itself, the tender moments, and fundamental changes that affect us all. Shining with a beauty that is rarely found in current literature, The Notebook establishes Nicholas Sparks as a classic storyteller with a unique insight into the only emotion that really matters.”

Stephanie Perkins also has a cute series out that would also be perfect reads!

Anna and the French Kiss

“Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris – until she meets Etienne St. Clair: perfect, Parisian (and English and American, which makes for a swoon-worthy accent), and utterly irresistible. The only problem is that he’s taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her almost-relationship back home. As winter melts into spring, will a year of romantic near – misses end with the French kiss Anna – and readers – have long awaited?”

Lola and the Boy Next Door

“Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit — more sparkly, more fun, more wild — the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.

When Cricket — a gifted inventor — steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.”

Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler

“According to Anna’s best friend, Frankie, twenty days in Zanzibar Bay is the perfect opportunity to have a summer fling, and if they meet one boy every day, there’s a pretty good chance Anna will find her first summer romance. Anna lightheartedly agrees to the game, but there’s something she hasn’t told Frankie–she’s already had her romance, and it was with Frankie’s older brother, Matt, just before his tragic death one year ago.

TWENTY BOY SUMMER explores what it truly means to love someone, what it means to grieve, and ultimately, how to make the most of every beautiful moment life has to offer.”

Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik

“In this modern take on “Pride and Prejudice,” Elise Benton, who has just moved to California, is a junior at an exclusive prep school where, in spite of her initial bad impression, she finds herself attracted to the moody and handsome son of Hollywood’s most famous celebrity couple.”

Amy and Roger Epic Detour by Morgan Matson.

“Amy Curry thinks her life sucks. Her mom decides to move from California to Connecticut to start anew–just in time for Amy’s senior year. Her dad recently died in a car accident. So Amy embarks on a road trip to escape from it all, driving cross-country from the home she’s always known toward her new life. Joining Amy on the road trip is Roger, the son of Amy’s mother’s old friend. Amy hasn’t seen him in years, and she is less than thrilled to be driving across the country with a guy she barely knows. So she’s surprised to find that she is developing a crush on him. At the same time, she’s coming to terms with her father’s death and how to put her own life back together after the accident. Told in traditional narrative as well as scraps from the road–diner napkins, motel receipts, postcards–this is the story of one girl’s journey to find herself.”

Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally

“What girl doesn’t want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Jordan Woods isn’t just surrounded by hot guys, though-she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her high school football team. They all see her as one of the guys, and that’s just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university. But now there’s a new guy in town who threatens her starting position… suddenly she’s hoping he’ll see her as more than just a teammate.”

These are just a few of many awesome summer reads! If you know any that either you have already read, or are dying to read comment down below! We would love to know!
