Hey Everyone!

Wow, is it already the weekend again? I feel like my weeks just fly by! With school, Turning Pages, Burn Bright, reading, Josh, and friends, I have almost no time for myself.Ā But not to worry!! Lisa has the perfect topic for this week’s Life with Lisa segment!

Homecoming! If you don’t know what that is, it’s the school year’s biggest dance! So yes, girls hope and pray that the boy they’ve been crushing on will ask them to go, and spend hundreds of dollars on hair, makeup, nails, shoes and the prefect dress. While boys go out and buy fancy suits, and nice dress shoes.

Wasn’t asked to be someone’s date? Don’t stress! Just go with some friends! Who cares if you don’t have a date? You can dance with anyone and everyone you want, you don’t even have to worry about hurting someone else’s feelings if you don’t dance with them to every song.

Just go out, and have a good time with your friends. Go out to dinner before you go to the dance, and have a sleepover afterwards. Who needs boys anyways? šŸ™‚

You want to go, but your boyfriend doesn’t? There’s two very simple answers for this question. If you really want to go dancing, then do what I mentioned above^^^. Want to go dancing, but rather spend the night with him? Have a special night, with just you and him. Stay at home, pop some corn, toss in a few movies, get a soft blanket to cuddle and get close in, and have a fun time. Or even, just go bowling, watch a movie, go putt putting, or to an arcade, and have a blast together.

Don’t know how to ask that special girl to go with you? Ahh, my favorite question! And this one goes out to you guys šŸ™‚ There’s so many ways to go about this, but I know how it feels, you’re nervous (and even a bit scared) she’ll say no – or that the way you’re asking her won’t be comparable to the way her friends were asked. But no need to fear, Lisa is here!

1. If she drives to school, get out of class five minutes early. Put a rose on her windshield with a note, asking if she’ll be your date! This would make my heart melt, and I would shout yes from the roof tops! But remember to put your name, you don’t want her being confused.

2. Go into her next class, and draw on the board (of course with the teacher’s permission), writing her name REALLY big, so it catches her attention first thing, when she walks in. Then below her name, ask if you could be her escort to the dance.

3. If you know where she lives, go to her house. Bring a balloon, roses, and her ticket to the dance. Don’t go too late, that’s creepy, and make sure it’s dark out, it’s more romantic that way! Say her name, than ask if she would be your date to the dance! Simple šŸ™‚

Want that perfect dress, but don’t have enough money? Go to a thrift store, Ross, Marshalls, JCPennys, Target, or any other clothing store that’s in your area. Who cares if you spent 100 bucks on a dress or 20? No one even notices anyway.

My school even offers a program, called the Dress Exchange, where you can bring your old dresses that you don’t want anymore, and get a new one (of course it’s used though!).

Do your own make-up, have your mom or older sister do your hair and nails. There is NO reason you should spent over fifty bucks!! Just be smart, and sure of what you want.

Have no clue how to dance? Doesn’t matter! You’re there to have fun with either your date or friends. You’re not there to have a dance contest. Keep your mind open and have a good time!

Howdy Ya’ll,

Welcome to Life with Lisa, this fine Friday (or Saturday, depends where you’re at)! As you all probably know, the second book of Burn Bright is coming out soon, or already has, and Ā Marianne was kind enough to send each staff member their own signed copy. Since I didn’t have Burn Bright, she was such a doll and sent both Burn Bright and Angel Arias. As of right now, I’m super busy not only with blogging for Burn Bright, Turning Pages, and normal life, but school also; so I’m not sure when I’ll be able to finally dig into them (but I hope soon!).

Yesterday, I was kind of just sitting around, thinking about things I could talk about this week’s Life with Lisa post; to be honest I’ve been so busy I haven’t even had time to prepare posts (which I plan on doing this weekend). So yes, I’ve been a bad little blogger, doing her posts last minute. I had no clue, what I could talk about, until I sent Marianne an email informing her that her package arrived. That’s when it all came to me! Why not blog about getting mail!?

Noooo, I’m not showing you all the junk I get in the mail or what kind bills I have.

But one of my biggest bug-a-boos is having to wait a long time just for something to come in the mail. Yeah, there’s priority shipping, but who wants to pay twenty (or more…usually more though) bucks on having a package be there by tomorrow? I send out at least five to eight packages a week, that would cost me over one hundred dollars, that’s insane!? I would rather send it the cheap route, and go to the bookstore once I’m done at the post office.

On the other hand, when I’m the receiver I don’t want to wait for two weeks either. Especially, if I know that a good books coming or if it’s a surprise (I love surprises!), that’s when I want it here, and I want it here right now!

Screamed, danced, jumped, laughed, smiled, and screamed a bit more were just a few things I did when I received my first package through theĀ blogging world. I felt like it was a huge step in my blogging life. Like now, I’m cool enough to not only get books sent to me by my grandma, but other people too! When I opened my mailbox, and saw that yellow package, and with my name on it, I ripped it open right there. Without any hesitation!

When I first started blogging, I felt like it was me against the world – that all of the other bloggers were way more experienced and knew more than I did. Receiving this first package made me feel accepted, and like I’m here too, blogging alongside all of these other bookworms.

Thank you so much for stopping by today! Make sure to leave me a comment, telling me about your first package experience! Have a lovely weekend(:

Hey Dolls (and Dudes)!

Last week, if you follow Life with Lisa (of course we do Lisa, your AWESOME!) than you should know, I was talking about first days of school, and first days of going into High School. I know I’m already in High School, but I figured why not just tell you guys how my first two days went? My class schedule is divided into two days, a blue and a orange day (our school colors). Each day I have four different classes, with different teachers and different classmates.

Our school was recently totally rebuilt and cost our city over 14 million dollars, that’s really expensive, but you should have seen the pile of trash it was before. Since we’ve had this renovation, many kids for other High Schools nearby want to go to the “new” school, and plus there were over 500 new Freshmen; soooo it’s a tad bit over crowded. I noticed this a few different times; when I was trying to get into the school parking lot, when I was trying to find an actual parking space, going from class to class in the hallway without having to shove someone out of my way, and each one of my classes has over 35 students!

This is crazy! We just had our school rebuilt, and now it’s too small! Great.

My first day wasn’t too bad; besides a minor headache. I had two classes and lunch with my boyfriend (Josh), I had a class with my best friends (Joyce and Shawnee) and I didn’t have any teachers that I don’t like. Everything was really great, but I guess I spoke too soon!

Today was horrible…

I had one class with Josh and Joyce (which isn’t the horrible part). But I did wake up late, forget my lunch, was hungry all day, ripped my pants (and you guessed it, right in between my legs) and had homework for two classes, along with tons of blogging to do! So today was a bit stressful (to say the least). But I’ll get on a regular schedule again soon, and become more efficient (:

Even though I didn’t want summer to end, I was glad to be back. I get to see my friends more often, I won’t be on the computer too much (but just enough!), and I get to meet new people. I hope the rest of the school year goes smoother than today did, and hopefully no more ripped pants!

Thanks for stopping by, here at Life with Lisa!Ā Leave me a comment, I would love to know how your first day of school or just how your day of work went! Remember, the weekend’s only a day away(:

Hey Y’all,

Welcome to another addition of Life with Lisa, thank you for joining me today!Ā As we all know, school is starting up again very soon (or already has for some of you) and everyone’s in a rush to do last minute school shopping, get parking tickets (so you can actually park at school, instead of getting your car towed, like I did, or parking all the way down the street!), and getting your schedule fixed; which they seem to mess up every time.

Do they ever get class schedules done right the first time around?! I doubt it.

Instead of running around like a chicken (why is it always a chicken … poor chickens) with my head cut off, I’m ready for school! I have new clothes, shiny new shoes, all the school supplies I’ll ever need, and my parking ticket (so I don’t have to park all the way down the street!). Lisa Smith, is ready for whatever the first day of school throws at her this year!

Which isn’t the same thing I could say for either Freshmen or Sophomore year of High School; I still have nightmares..

Going into High School can be hard, you’re growing up and you’re growing up fast. Ten minutes ago you were playing with dolls and stuffed teddies, before you know it you’re going into middle school, than all of sudden you’re growing hair in places you’ve never had hair before, your voice gets deeper, and you’re three feet taller, finding yourself going into High School.

Things really change in those three or four short years of life, but it’s all about finding out who YOU are, and who YOU want to be.

After being the oldest in a relatively small school, going into a huge High School can be a bit nerve wrecking. Trust me, I know, I was in the exact same situation just two short years ago! Instead of being on top of the food chain, now your officially at the bottom.

Luckily, my high school has a awesome summer program for incoming Freshmen. Basically you come to school or two weeks throughout the summer, and learn the ropes of high school; getting to know the school, the teachers, and a hand full of upperclassmen. If you’re a soon-to-be Freshie you should see if your school also offers a program or something like this, its a great way to practice for the first day of school.

After going to this program, and getting to meet some other Freshmen, my first day of school wasn’t too bad. Which doesn’t mean, that I didn’t want my dad there holding my hand the whole time and making me feel safe, but things didn’t go as bad as I thought they would! I came home with no broken bones, sooo that’s good … right?

So I guess in this post, I just wanted to say good luck throughout your first day of school. Remember school is only fun, if you make it fun. And why not? We all have to go, so just relax, learn and have a kick butt time! šŸ™‚

P.S. Want to make me smile? Easy! Just leave me a comment:D

Hey Everyone!

I have great news. After having braces for almost two whole years, from October 2009 to now, I’m getting them removed. School starts on the seventh of September, and I was lucky enough to get an appointment for the sixth!! Im sooo excited!! Well, besides the part where I have to get up at seven in the morning…I could do without that. Getting braces was the bestĀ decisionĀ I ever made, I look like a completely different person!

When you look at me now, you see a happy teenage girl, with not even one care in the world. But it wasn’t always like this. At one point in time throughout my life, things changed…life changed, and that made me who I am today. I stopped worrying what classmates thought about me or what I enjoyed doing, in MY free time. I stopped trying so hard to fit in and make new friends. I becameĀ independent, confident and strong.

Brace Face, Train Tracks, and Metal Mouth, are nothing new; I’ve heard it all. School can be rough and people can be mean. But if someone called me that now, I wouldn’t care. I’m not the one wasting my time (where I could be reading) on making fun of someone’s appearance, who I know nothing about or what they’ve been through.

After middle school, I needed a change to go along with all of the other changing I was doing; in appearance. I decided on growing my hair out longer, getting braces and losing weight. Before I did though, I promised myself never to go back to the way I was before.

This huge step in my life, was for me, not because of what someone thought or said. After growing out my hair, losing 20 pounds and getting braces, my social life has grown, and I feel a lot healthier and better about myself. Even with these drastic changes, people (especially girls) still have something to make fun of me for, that will never change. People will always judge you.

Starting at High school I got to meet new people, people who were more like me, people that were more accepting. Besides just having a great family, now I have great friends and an awesome boyfriend. I get to do what I love; go to football games, blog about books, and read like crazy.

No matter how much you change, people will still find something to pick on or make fun of you for. So why bother with them? Why care about what that person thinks about you? Do what makes YOU happy, and stop caring what other people have to say about it.
